Gwent emerged in 2015 as a card game playable within The Witcher 3. The card game became so popular with fans that a standalone version was released in 2017 for consoles, PC, macOS, and mobile devices. This also received a spin-off as in 2018, The Witcher Tales: Thronebreaker was released. Now, developer CD Projekt Red is in the process of creating yet another Gwent standalone game.
Gwent Receives Another Game From CD Projekt Red
According to IGN, this new Gwent game is currently codenamed Project Golden Nekker and will be released sometime in 2022. The Gwent team at CD Projekt Red is handling development on the game which will feature a different single-player experience compared to the other game versions of Gwent. This game will be a standalone release that doesn’t require ownership of other Gwent games.
Gwent Comms Lead Pawel Burza said, “It’s not another Witcher Tales [game] but something different,” he said. “We’re aiming to provide a captivating single-player for players who prefer it over competitive multiplayer Gwent.” Project Golden Nekker has been hinted at for a while now and will be revealed soon according to comments made during a stream in December.
CD Projekt Red also revealed concept art showcasing environments and possibly cards that can be used within Project Golden Nekker, including an image of a Golden Nekker.
