In the lead-up to Hogwarts Legacy, Sebastian certainly looked like a shifty character. We mean just check out this tense trailer where Sebastian and the player prepare to cast Unforgivable Curses at each other. In-game, the player and Sebastian certainly don’t get off on the right foot, but is Sebastian following in a long line of Slythrins to go rogue and evil? Here’s whether you can trust Sebastian or if he will stab you in the back.
Can You Trust Sebastian in Hogwarts Legacy?
You first meet Sebastian in Defense Against the Dark Arts class where you and Sebastian have to deal. In a scene reminiscent of how Harry Potter dueled Draco Malfoy, both of you trade spells at each other. At this point, you may be wondering if you met your school nemesis, but shortly after class, the player can join a secret dueling club where instead of fighting, you and Sebastian can join forces against other students.
A short while later, you can choose Sebastian or Natty, a fellow Gryffindor to accompany you to Hogsmead. While it doesn’t make much of a difference from a gameplay point of view, it adds additional layers to yours and Sebastian’s growing friendship. *Cue Step Brothers meme, did we just become best friends? Instead of finding your Draco, you actually stumbled across your Ron Weasley.
So can Sebastian be trusted in Hogwarts Legacy? Later, Sebastian helps you sneak into the Restricted Section of the Library. Rather than letting you both get in trouble, Sebastian chooses to distract the librarian and let you get away. Talk about friends.

Does Sebastian Go to the Dark Side?
Like Slythrins before him, Sebastian feels the pull of the dark side, so indeed not go too far into spoiler territory, things grow more complicated. But even while Sebastian struggles with his darker impulses, he’s a tragic character in a way. He wants to save his sister Anne, and it’s that desire to help his family that fuels much of the later emotional parts of the story.
So Sebastian ultimately breaks the mold when it comes to the nefarious Slythrins that were portrayed in the Harry Potter book series and movies. But as the storyline continues, he does fall along a darker path where his choices become questionable. Still, he’s your friend until the end.
