Can You Play as Tails and Knuckles in Sonic Frontiers? Answered

We all want to play our favorites

Sonic Frontiers is the latest Sonic game in the franchise. Sonic is no stranger to rough releases, but sometimes fans can’t help but hope. Not only are many hoping for a good game, but also a return of fan favorites such as Tails, Knuckles, and possibly a few more. Sonic in this day and age is almost nothing without his gallery of supporting cast. However, it isn’t just enough to see them in games for many, we also desperately miss playing as them too. So the real question is, can you play as Tails and Knuckles in Sonic Frontiers?

Are Tails and Knuckles Playable?

Sadly let’s just rip the bandaid off quickly. You can only play as Sonic as of the launch of the game. Yeah, that’s right, in a time where a Sonic fan may almost feel spoiled with games like Sonic Mania and Origins, nostalgic retreads deserved of praise, where you can play as the other two most recognizable characters in the franchise… this 3D Sonic game we have no such luck.

Although you could perhaps hope on DLC or maybe a very long and arduous journey to unlock them much deeper into the game, we wouldn’t really suggest it. Something tells me if Knuckles and Tails were playable, we would have seen highlights of them before the game’s release. Still, the Sonic faithful are an optimistic bunch, so who knows what the future holds.

SEGA seems to want to focus on Sonic this time around, promising somewhat more in-depth character work with the blue blur as he battles a new mysterious foe, Sage. There has been heavy emphasis leading up to the game’s release that Sonic’s relative connection to newcomer Sage is the game’s highest priority. Hopefully, this and the promising gameplay, will not be too much of a stumble for the newest edition to Sonic canon and we can all have a speedy fun time regardless.
