Blizzard Backs Out of Game Developer Conference

Blizzard Entertainment joins the growing list of companies backing out of the Game Developers Conference amid concerns of COVID-19. The conference is set to run from Monday, March 16th to Friday, March 20, 2020.

Game Developers Conference (GDC) is an annual conference for video game developers including an expo, networking, roundtable discussions, lectures, and tutorials from leading professionals in the gaming industry.

Blizzard Backs Out of Game Developer Conference

Blizzard Tweeted that “the health and well-being of our team is our highest priority” on their official Twitter account.

Other notable companies backing out of the conference amid growing COVID-19 concerns include Microsoft, Epic Games, Electronic Arts, Facebook, and Sony.

Blizzard posted a followup saying “the conference is and has always been an important event for our developers, so we look forward to participating in the future.”

With so many major companies dropping out of the event, it becomes a real question as to whether or not the event will actually continue. There has been no official announcement from GDC to assume otherwise.
