Best Spell and Blessing Combinations in Lone Ruin

Mix and match.

Most roguelikes revolve around the concept of building a character from near-zero using upgrades obtained along the way. These upgrades, in turn, synergize in new and interesting ways to aid you along your way. Lone Ruin works much the same, and with the right combo of upgrades, you can become borderline unstoppable. Here are the best spell and Blessing combinations in Lone Ruin.

Best Spell and Blessing Combinations in Lone Ruin

As you venture through the levels of a Lone Ruin run, you will naturally acquire more spells and Blessings, as well as upgrades for both. While you only have four spell slots and 5 Blessing slots to start, you don’t actually need that many different items to make a truly killer combination. All it takes is a bit of luck and a bit of forethought.

There are probably tons of viable endgame-level item combinations in Lone Ruin, but in our experience, these are the ones that really pull their weight:

  • Pulse + Berzerk + Pride Swell
  • Fireball + Glowy Ember + Blizzard
  • Boomerang + Rancid Berry + Black Hole

Pulse + Berzerk + Pride Swell

Pulse is a naturally strong offensive spell, but its biggest weakness is its long cooldown. Berzerk, when activated, completely removes all cooldowns for a brief period, allowing you to fire away with reckless abandon. The sheer strength of Pulse will repel most weak foes, which means you won’t take much damage. Ergo, Pride Swell, which boosts the size and strength of your attacks when you’re at full health, will make the already-powerful Pulse even deadlier.

Fireball + Glowy Ember + Blizzard

Fireball naturally has an explosive element to it, dealing AOE and knockback to any enemies in the vicinity of the enemy that takes the initial blow. Glowy Ember adds a chance to make any defeated enemies explode, and that effect applies to both the initial shot of Fireball and its AOE burst. If you’re lucky, you can set off a chain reaction of powerful explosions. This is already a good setup, but a bit of Blizzard is nice as well just to slow enemies down and keep them in the AOE radius.

Boomerang + Rancid Berry + Black Hole

This one takes a bit of building, but it’s totally worth it. Rancid Berry grants you a damage multiplier for every enemy on the field that’s currently inflicted with a status ailment, i.e. burn or slow. By getting upgrades for your Boomerang that apply such effects, as well as increase the number of shots it fires at once, you can basically create a wall of self-sustaining death in front of you and just let your foes run right into it. If you can swing it, Black Hole with a status upgrade of its own is the cherry on top, allowing you to herd enemies together with its powerful pull while also activating the damage multiplier.

These are just a few ideas for powerful spell and Blessing combos in Lone Ruin. Use them as a framework to experiment for yourself and see what works best!
