Part of the fun of building a roleplaying character is giving them positive and negative traits. Nobody’s perfect, after all; you gotta have flaws to balance out all of those incredible talents. In Deepwoken, these positives and negatives manifest as Boons and Flaws, though you might want to think carefully about which ones you take. Here are the best Boons and worst Flaws in Deepwoken.

Best Boons and Worst Flaws in Deepwoken

In Deepwoken, when you’re creating your character, you have to balance out the number of Flaws and Boons you have equipped. The more Flaws you have assigned, the more Boons you can assign to balance the scales, but if you have no Flaws, you can’t assign any Boons. Ergo, the best way to build up your character is to select Flaws that don’t have as much of an impact to make room for more beneficial Boons.

Since you can’t equip Boons without Flaws, let’s start with the Flaws. Some Flaws aren’t so bad, but if you’re looking to bolster your Boons, make sure you don’t take these Flaws:

  • Squeamish: This Flaw makes it harder for you to attack and kill players and NPCs. Whenever you’re gripping a player or NPC, you take a penalty to your hunger bar. If you use melee attacks a lot, you’ll drain your bar very quickly.
  • Deficient: This Flaw decreases the rate at which your ether regenerates by itself. If you make use of a lot of special abilities, it’ll be much harder to get your ether back afterward to use them again.
  • Simple: This Flaw increases the amount of EXP you need to level up, gradually scaling upward at higher levels. Because this is such a severe Flaw, it counts for two Boons, though you can’t assign any other Flaws with it.

So, now that we’ve established which Flaws will mess up your build the worst, let’s flip the script. Once you’ve assigned a few Flaws to your character, you can balance them out with some quality Boons. Boon effects generally aren’t as powerful as Flaw effects, but some can prove quite beneficial in the long run.

  • Survivalist: This Boon makes you completely immune to environmental hazards like acid rain, though it doesn’t work on the layer 2 environments.
  • Maverick: The Boon increases the amount of EXP you get from defeating an NPC if there are no other players helping you. If you like to play by yourself, this is a must.
  • Gourmet: Increases the amount food and drink replenish your hunger and thirst bars, respectively. This helps your consumable items last longer.

By carefully selecting the Flaws and Boons you assign to your character during the creation process, you can limit negative effects and prioritize positive effects to better mesh with your personal play style.
