Best 4 Persona 4 Golden Mods

Let's make this mystery more interesting.

I don’t think anyone will fight me if I say that Persona 4 Golden is a modern JRPG classic. Even with the justified popularity of Persona 5, it pays to remember that 4 walked so 5 could run. It’s still a great game to this day, but with the power of modding, it can be even greater. Here are the 4 best Persona 4 Golden mods.

Best 4 Persona 4 Golden Mods

Just to clarify real quick, you can only install mods if you’re playing on the PC version of Persona 4 Golden. If you’re playing on a console, well, I’m sure there’s some way to install mods, but I sure as heck don’t know it.

As good of a game as Persona 4 Golden is, it can always be better, which is why crafty fans have been hard at work developing mods to improve the game’s visuals, overhaul its mechanics, and even add entirely new features. All of these mods are available to download from GameBanana, and feature tutorials for installation. Bear in mind that while most of these mods should work with one another, there can be some potentially game-breaking friction. Always back up your game files before you try installing mods, just in case things go sideways.

So, with no further ado, here are the mods we recommend:

  • P4G Community Enhancement Pack
  • Persona 5 Battle Controls
  • Yosuke Romance
  • Persona 4 Rose Golden

P4G Community Enhancement Pack

This first mod is technically not just one mod, but a whole bunch of mods rolled into a single convenient package. With the backing of the majority of Persona 4 Golden’s modding community, the P4G Community Enhancement Pack features all kinds of tweaks and fixes to overhaul the game. The pack features fixes for the game’s textures, interface improvements, feature expansions, and even some cheats for those of you on your second playthrough.

Persona 5 Battle Controls

One element that many people have claimed to prefer about Persona 5 over Persona 4 is the snappiness of the controls. Rather than a bunch of drop-down menus, that game mapped its battle functions to individual face buttons, which expedited the whole process. If you miss that control scheme, the Persona 5 Battle Controls mod brings it back to Persona 4 Golden. With just a quick tap of a button, you can summon your Personas, use items, and employ handy battle shortcuts.

Yosuke Romance

While I’m not much of a shipper, I do think it’s a little disappointing that Persona 4 Golden doesn’t let you romance Yosuke, if only because of how close he’s written to be with the protagonist. If you’ve always wanted to get cozy with Yosuke, then the Yosuke Romance mod will let you do just that. This mod adds a few subtle, yet distinctive tweaks to Yosuke’s Social Link interactions, allowing you to form a proper romantic relationship with him.

Persona 4 Rose Golden

To date, Persona 3 Portable is the only Persona game to let you choose between a male or female protagonist, and that’s just a darn shame. If you’d like such functionality in Persona 4 Golden, turn your eyes to the incredibly ambitious Persona 4 Rose Golden mod. This mod allows you to select a female protagonist instead of the usual male one, and is slated to feature a completely original character model, rewritten character interactions and romances, and other relevant tweaks. It’s still a work in progress right now, but it’s shaping up to be quite the creation when it’s done.

Let me just say this one more time for those in the back: back up your files before any attempts at modding. Trust me, you don’t want to futz your original files and have to spend several hours detangling everything just to get it working again.
