All Hitchhiker Passive Abilities in Monster Roadtrip

Guard the radio controls with your life.

The entire reason you bring friends along on a roadtrip is to get different perspectives on both the journey and the destination. You can visit the world’s largest potato yourself, but it’s not as fun as tag-teaming jokes about it with a buddy. Understanding these various perspectives will give your trip the extra zest it needs. Here are all the hitchhiker passive abilities in Monster Roadtrip.

All Hitchhiker Passive Abilities in Monster Roadtrip

In Monster Roadtrip, your only constant companions on the road are Polly and Scott, but whenever you stop off at a rest stop between events, you have the opportunity to pick up a hitchhiker from the bus stop. Besides occasionally triggering random events in transit and being necessary for certain endings, each hitchhiker possesses a passive ability that can affect your resources, which can be helpful (or unhelpful) for reaching particular destinations.

To activate a hitchhiker’s passive ability, you need to have a conversation with them by selecting the bus stop at a rest stop while they’re in your party. After you chat them up, their passive will activate for the next week, but you’ll need to chat with them again at the next rest stop if you want it to stay on. This also means that you can’t activate a hitchhiker’s passive the same week that you pick them up.

Besides Polly and Scott, who have the same passive ability and are always available to chat with at the rest stop benches, there are 12 hitchhikers you can potentially pick up at a bus stop. The passive abilities you can activate by chatting are as follows:

  • Polly Geist/Scott Howl: All resource gains and losses are increased by 1 point
  • Joy Johnson-Johjima: Gain +1 Soul and lose -1 Magic every turn
  • Aaravi Mishra: Gain +1 Magic and lose -1 Money every turn
  • Milo Belladonna: If a resource hits 0, Milo will raise it back to 1 once
  • Liam de Lioncourt: Gain +1 Mind and lose -1 Hype every turn
  • Vera Oberlin: Gain +1 Money and lose -1 Soul every turn
  • Valerie Oberlin: Any resource gains from trinket swaps with Noodles will be boosted by 1 point, must barter with Noodles the week after activating to use
  • Moss Mann: Gain +1 in a random resource and lose -1 in a random resource every turn
  • Miranda Vanderbilt: Gain +1 Stamina and lose -1 Mind every turn
  • Damien LaVey: Gain +1 Hype and lose -1 Stamina every turn
  • Calculester Hewlett-Packard: Gain +1 on your lowest resource and lose -1 on your highest resource every turn
  • Zoe: Immediately after chatting, two random resources swap their values
  • Stu: All resource gains and losses are decreased by 1 point

Depending on the kind of ending you’re going for, picking up a hitchhiker can either be a beneficial transaction, moving you toward a certain resource, or a calculated risk you need to actively work to mitigate. Think of it like bringing along someone with a really good sense of humor, but they refuse to keep their hands off your road trip snacks.
