Every game of Age of Wonders 4 is completely different from previous editions due to high levels of detail and customization. In this real-time strategy (RTS) game, the map changes reactively based upon what you build in the world and how you grow your cities. Paradox Interactive promises an RTS that is real and intense, with detailed close-up maps and an improved morale system.
Ever wanted to act a little bit like a Dr. Frankenstein in a fantasy environment? Unleash your inner mad scientist with Age of Wonders 4, which lets you create the appearance and abilities of your followers by crafting them and combining different types of bodily forms to create an entirely new species and army. The customization is a major selling point of the game, which promises you can “build anything from a clan of cannibal halflings to mystic moon elves, or recreate your favorite fantasy tropes.” So… mage-Frankenstein it is!
In addition to customizing your own creatures, you define your own fantasy empire by mixing and matching other elements, such as Tomes of Knowledge. You customize people this way, but also your entire empire! Your denizens and armies will morph and evolve to meet and defeat foes.
Release Date: When Does Age of Wonders 4 Come Out?
While it’s already available for pre-purchase on Steam, Age of Wonders 4 is officially available for download on May 2, 2023. There’s a good reason to pre-order: if you do, you’ll get the Aric Rex Ruler and the Athlan Imperial Armour Set, which consists of an Imperial Cape, Lion Full Plate, and Athlan Crown.
Paradox Interactive has prepared an Age of Wonders 4 Base Game, as well as a Premium Edition which includes an expansion pass. In the expansion pass, you get:

Is Age of Wonders 4 Multiplayer?
Age of Wonders 4 offers solo and multiplayer modes. The multiplayer mode lets you play two ways: live, and asynchronous. Live play permits both players to play real-time, but in asynchronous play, you play your next move when it suits you. If you want to play Age of Wonders 4 with someone who lives in a different time zone, this can be a fun way to enjoy the game together.
System Requirements for Age of Wonders 4
The system requirements for Age of Wonders 4 are as follows:
The minimum setup recommended is a 64-bit processor and OS, minimum Windows 10 Home 64 Bit. Processor minimum should be Intel Core 17-2700K or AMD Ryzen 5 1600X. Minimum memory should be 8 GB Ram with Nvidia GeForce GTX 670 (2GB) or AMD Radeon HD 7870 or Intel Iris Xe G7 (Tiger Lake) graphics card. You’ll need at least 20 GB available space with a 1080p (30FPS) setting.
The recommended setting matches the minimum with the following changes: 16 GB RAM recommended, Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Ti (8GB) or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT (8GB) graphics card, greater than 20 GB available space, and a 60 FPS setting.
In addition to PC platform availability, Age of Wonders 4 is also available on Xbox Series X|S and PS5.
