Team Up and Hunt Ghosts in Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed

IllFonic have become known for their asymmetrical multiplayer games. They created 2017’s Friday the 13th and 2020’s Predator: Hunting Grounds. The most recent game they’ve released is Arcadegeddon but it turns out they’ve also been working on another project. This project is another asymmetrical multiplayer game based on the Ghostbusters IP called Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed.

The Next Generation of Ghostbusters is Here

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed is an asymmetrical multiplayer game that features 4v1 gameplay. In the game, players take control of their own character who has joined the Ghostbusters seemingly recruited by the original Ghostbuster’s cast including Ernie Hudson’s Winston Zeddemore and Dan Akyroyd’s Ray Stantz.

The firehouse from the first Ghostbusters film acts as the player’s base. Here they can customize their Ghostbuster’s look as well as their loadout. Players will be able to team up with each other as they attempt to hunt down ghost enemies. One of these enemies is Slimer, the series mascot. Slimer and the other ghosts can be controlled by an enemy player during gameplay and can even possess objects to haunt other players.

According to a Polygon article, the game will support cross-play on console and PC and AI players during matches. A release date has not been given but the game will launch sometime in Q4 2022. It will be available for PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and the Epic Games Store on PC.
