Everyone’s all hyped up for the release of Pokémon Legends: Arceus, and indeed, it’ll probably be the talk of the town for at least the next few weeks or so. But when Legends: Arceus finally works its way through the public consciousness, odds are good many of you will still have that Pokémon hankering in your heart. Good thing you’ve got Pokémon GO to sate those cravings, especially when it’s got some cool events on the horizon. Here are Pokémon GO’s February 2022 events.
As with any month, we’ve got the usual spate of Pokémon GO mini-events and changes in February 2022, as well as bigger attractions to really get the whole community engaged. If you’re in a rush and don’t care about the details, here’s a quick list of what to expect.

- Lunar New Year
- Valentine’s Day

Spotlight Hours
Every Tuesday in February brings about a new Spotlight Hour event from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in your local time zone, during which the spawn rate of one particular Pokémon will be boosted exponentially, and there will be an additional bonus in effect. The Pokémon and bonuses for February’s Spotlight Hours are:
- Feb 1: Litleo boost, double evolution XP
- Feb 8: Spritzee boost, double catch Stardust
- Feb 15: Koffing boost, double catch XP
- Feb 22: Voltorb boost, double catch candy
Community Day
The star of February’s Community Day, which will be held on February 12th, is Hoppip! Log in to play on that day, and the wilds will be absolutely lousy with Hoppip. Hope you don’t have allergies.
Research Breakthrough
For February’s Research Breakthrough reward, shiny Espurr will be coming to Pokémon GO! You’ll be able to discern it from its normal counterpart by its pale pink coloration. Both the male and female forms of its evolved form, Meowstic, will also have their bright yellow shiny variants added.
Raids
It’s lovely weather for some raiding! Starting February 16th, Regirock, Registeel, and all four Formes of Deoxys (Normal, Attack, Defense, and Speed) will be appearing in five-star Raids. If you can catch Regirock and Registeel, they’ll come equipped with Earthquake and Zap Cannon, respectively. All four Formes of Deoxys are also having their shiny variants added to the Dex. Additional legendaries will appear in the rotation when the Johto GO Tour starts, but we’ll get to that in a minute.
On the Mega front, Mega Houndoom will be heading Mega Raids from February 1st to February 15th, after which it’ll be swapped out with Mega Ampharos from February 15th to March 1st.
Lunar New Year
Pokémon GO will be hosting the annual Lunar New Year event from February 1st to February 7th. Details on this event have not been divulged yet, but you can expect to see lots of moon-themed Pokémon like Clefairy and Lunatone.
Valentine’s Day
Love is in the air! From February 10th to February 14th, celebrate Valentine’s Day with some themed research tasks and Trainer items. A currently unrevealed line of Fairy type Pokémon will also be added to the Dex.
Johto GO Tour
Here’s the big event for the month! After a small lead-up event from February 18th to February 25th, Pokémon GO will be hosting the Johto GO Tour for the entirety of February 26th. There will be free and ticketed versions of the event, with a ticket costing $11.99 USD. If you don’t buy the ticket, you’ll only be able to encounter rare Pokémon in the wild, in Raids, and in eggs.
During this event, Pokémon that were originally discovered in the Johto region (i.e. the second generation) will be appearing all over the place, in every single method of Pokémon discovery you can think of. The twist, however, is that when the event starts, you’ll need to decide which version you want to participate in, Gold or Silver, and once you choose a version, you can’t change it. Depending on the version you pick, different Pokémon will be attracted to Incenses and have a chance to be shiny.
The Pokémon that are more attracted to Incense will be:
- Gold: Spinarak, Gligar, Teddiursa, Mantine
- Silver: Ladyba, Delibird, Skarmory, Phanpy
The Pokémon that will have an increased chance to spawn shiny will be:
- Gold: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Spinarak, Igglybuff, Natu, Hoppip, Sunkern, Misdreavus, Wobuffet, Gligar, Shuckle, Teddiursa, Swinub, Mantine, Ho-Oh
- Silver: Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Ladyba, Cleffa, Sudowoodo, Hoppip, Yanma, Pineco, Delibird, Skarmory, Houndour, Phanpy, Miltank, Larvitar, Lugia
Speaking of shiny spawns, all Johto Pokémon currently in the Dex will have an increased chance to spawn shiny, and a bunch of Johto Pokémon are having their shiny variants added to the Dex all at once! The new shiny Johto Pokémon are:
- Unown J
- Hoothoot
- Noctowl
- Slugma
- Magcargo
- Hoppip
- Skiploom
- Jumpluff
- Remoraid
- Octillery
- Girafarig
- Tyrogue
- Hitmontop
- Phanpy
- Donphan
- Mantine
- Corsola
Besides the Pokémon spawns, there will also be a special research event that, if completed, will earn you an encounter with a Celebi that knows an unrevealed special attack. If you pre-order the Johto GO Tour ticket before February 10th, you’ll get access to the Season of Heritage’s timed research task for February.
Finally, as previously mentioned, when the Johto GO Tour begins, several Johto legendaries will be appearing in five-star Raids. Those legendaries are:
- Ho-Oh
- Lugia
- Suicune
- Raikou
- Entei
There you have it; those are all of the Pokémon GO February 2022 events coming your way.
