How Friendships and Hangouts Work in Midnight Suns

Get ready to pick mushrooms and go bird watching with your favorite Marvel superheroes.

During times of mayhem and impending doom, sometimes the best thing to do is have a friendly chat. In Midnight Suns, conversing and building friendships with your super-pals is just as important as going on missions. With a massive amount of dialogue put into the game, developer Firaxis Games implores players to talk to everyone you can. Players will get the chance to bond with fan favorites such as Blade, Ghost Rider and more. The higher your friendship levels are with other characters, the more cosmetics, abilities, and buffs that will be unlocked for the player. Let’s grab a cup of tea and find out how friendships and hangouts work in Midnight Suns.

When players enter the game for the first time, they should notice that there are two separate Friendship levels. Every hero in the Abby has an individual friendship level as well as the overall team friendship level. Individual friendship levels can be raised by doing a variety of things. Of course, simply taking certain characters on missions will increase their friendship level a bit. Where the real leveling for friendships begin however, are the individual hangout events you can take part in.

The player will be eligible to take part in these hangouts during the night with heroes that accompanied you on a mission during the day. In order to be invited to hangout with a hero, players will need to increase their friendship level with a hero enough to level up. Only when your friendship level has enough XP to level up can you be invited to a hangout. Hangouts are where you will get more in depth story explanation for the story as well as the superhero. During these events, choosing dialogue choices that coincide with the respective heroes personality will reward you with extra XP towards the friendship level. While exploring the grounds of the Abby, players will come across places called havens.

These locations act as special hangouts and can only be unlocked if you have explored the hub area and found them. Players can take a hero to hangout in one of these havens one time. In tandem with this, the locations themselves can only be visited once with any hero. These places offer the player a chance to pick mushrooms, go bird watching, and more with your superhero friends. Coinciding the haven activity with a heroes personality will increase the XP gained from the event. You may also find or buy gifts that you can then give to heroes during hangouts or havens. The rarer and more in tune the gift is with the hero, the more XP that will be given at the end of the hangout.

Looking to seemingly transform and advance the bonding feature from the XCOM 2: War of the Chosen DLC, learning how friendships and hangouts work in Midnight Suns is tantamount to advancing the game. Even if you’re not a fan of the dialogue and want to focus more on the gameplay, there’s no doubt that the rewards given from these events advance the level of play during the main missions of the game. Now if only there was a back brace you could gift to Spider-Man.
