How to Get Your First Weapon in Darkwood

You won't survive long without a weapon.

In Darkwood, new players might be surprised to find that weapons aren’t exactly jumping out at them, and numerous enemies are. In this challenging survival horror game, you will not be led by the hand, and you have to fend for yourself. But with so many enemies that want you dead, you have to fashion a weapon of some kind to face them. Here is how to find your first weapon in Darkwood.

How to get your first weapon in Darkwood

In the early game, your weapon choices are limited. Realistically, your first weapon will be one of two, both craftable.

If you look into your workbench in your hideout, you’ll find a board with nails, which is quite obviously a weapon used purely to inflict damage. It requires 2 wooden boards and ten nails. It deals enough damage to swat away many dogs and take down more human-like figures, but it won’t last long and will need to be repaired often or upgraded to make a more reliable weapon.

The board with nails is not too expensive and the parts can be traded for every day through the trader, after surviving night two. However, it may be harder to spare or source the required materials right away, before the first night.

The second potential weapon is the torch. That’s right, that thing isn’t only used for spreading light. It makes a great spur-of-the-moment weapon, as well as doubling as a light source.

The parts required for the torch are a little more widely available through scavenging, however the components of gasoline or alcohol are to be as reserved as possible, so make torches sparingly and only if you have to.

Try to make the board with nails as quickly as you can if you can spare the materials. If not, however, then make a torch and try to avoid conflict as much as you can.

Do note that all weapons have a secondary form of attacking. Instead of simply holding right click and pressing left click, you can also press the middle mouse button to deliver a swifter attack. Keep this in mind if you are in a pinch.
