Will There Be A Persona 3 Remake?

Could we be seeing Persona 6 and Persona 3 Remake announced in 2023?

While the release of Persona 3 Portable (P3P) on current-gen consoles and PC might be a wonderful sight for some, others have been relentlessly shunning the game. Atlus has decided that the PSP version of the game was their choice regarding which version of Persona 3 to re-release. Mainly due to the fact that unlike any other version, P3P introduced something that no other game in the series has to date. That is, the option to choose between a male and female protagonist to play as. With tons of differences such as different romance options, dialogue, and even a new version of Orpheus, the MC’s main Persona. Unfortunately, with these new additions came a lot of subtractions from other versions of the game. From getting rid of animated cutscenes, to turning every area outside of dungeons into a 2-D visual novel.

This has angered many people in the community who take to places like Steam to review the game negatively. All hope isn’t lost for a potential remake however. As there have been lots of rumors circulating talking about a remake being shown off in the Summer of 2023. However, there is another piece of dialogue from a recent interview from a couple of employees at Atlus that have prompted the question to arise again. That question is: will there be a Persona 3 remake?

Even though the rumor of a potential Persona 3 remake being worked on behind-the-scenes for a while seems semi-legitimate, as of now it is only a substantiated rumor and nothing more. Instead we will focus on a Famitsu weekly magazine interview done by Atsushi Nomura, who is an Atlus Persona Team Business Producer, and Atlus Persona Team Director Daisuke Yajima. In this interview, the two go over their history at the company, the recent success of the franchise, and the steps they took to bring both P3P and Persona 4: Golden to current gamers.

Among these talks, Yajima instructs people to “pay attention to the female protagonist.” He went on to say that “P3P is currently the only version of Persona 3 where you can pick the female protagonist,” a truly intriguing statement when dissected. If they weren’t planning on remaking Persona 3, would there be a need to add the word ‘currently’? This leads us to believe that while you can only play the female main character in P3P, the rumors of a Persona 3 remake might not be too far from the truth.

It might seem like grasping at straws when talking about this topic. But the overwhelming support that the PS2 versions of Persona 3 have even after all these years would warrant some type of updated version of the game. Even though Persona 3 Portable just released on January 18th, 2023, a Persona 3 remake might be on the horizon. From this interview to the rumors given from apparent ‘vetted’ sources, it’s safe to say that Persona 3 fans should keep an eye out for any announcements during the Summer 2023.
