Luka Doncic is the Cover Star for NBA 2K22

2K Sports made it known that one of the game’s budding stars, the Mavs’ young guard, Luka Doncic, will grace the cover of NBA 2K22 standard edition, as well as the cross-gen bundle.

It shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to those in the know, as the Slovenian superstar has been on a tear through his first three seasons in the NBA. He has earned two All-Star appearances, two All-NBA 1st Team appearances, and two playoff appearances (and a ton of league MVP nods) in that time. Plus, he’s fresh off a postseason in which he averaged over 35 points, ten assists, and eight rebounds per game.

Doncic commented on the massive achievement:

“Making the global cover of NBA 2K22 is special for me. I’m proud to represent my country in a special cover that honors the colors of my Slovenian flag. Basketball has given me so much, and I’m excited to give back and work together with 2K Foundations this year to help the lives of young kids around the globe.”

NBA 2K22 WNBA 25th Anniversary Edition Cover Star is Candace Parker

On another note, 2K also announced that the special NBA WNBA 25th Anniversary Edition of the popular video game would feature the two-time WNBA MVP, Candace Parker

Parker has been one of the shining personalities both on and off the court for the WNBA. Not only has she won two league MVPs, but she’s also earned 6 All-Star appearances, 6 All-WNBA 1st Team appearances, and has won a WNBA Championship and WNBA Finals MVP. She’s also a popular host and analyst for NBA games on TNT and NBA TV and is one of the most recognizable faces in sports.

The news marks the first time that a female athlete has been featured on the cover of the game in the franchise’s history. Candice Parker also spoke on the amazing honor, stating the following:

“The cover of NBA 2K is such a pivotal platform to inspire young ballers, and I wanted future WNBA stars to know that they can be cover athletes too. Representation matters, so this is a special moment of progress for the sport and the series. To be part of this historic cover is a testament to the growth and rising popularity of the women’s game, and I’m proud to be the first female cover athlete to be the face of NBA 2K.”

NBA 2K22 75th Anniversary Edition features Kevin Durant, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar

It appears as though the NBA 75th Anniversary Edition of NBA 2K22 will help to shed light on the careers of NBA greats like Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Dirk Nowitzki, and Kevin Durant as well. Focusing on how the three have helped shape the game into what it is today.

You also may recognize the pastel artwork featured on the Anniversary Edition, as it’s the work of famous artist Charly Palmer, known for his most recent “America Must Change” cover for Time Magazine.

All in all, some exciting revelations, no doubt, with more news likely on the way as we approach the epic release date for NBA 2K22 on September 10th.
