NBA 2K22 release date and what we know so far

The good news is that NBA 2K is relatively consistent with its release dates. NBA 2K18 dropped on September 15th (2017), NBA 2K19 was released on September 7th (2018), NBA 2K20 hit on September 5th (2019), and NBA 2K21 came out on September 4th (2020). Going by historical releases, you can expect NBA 2K22 to be released sometime in early September, with the most likely date being September 3rd, 2021, which is the first Friday of the month.

We’re likely going to know a whole lot more over the coming months, especially since June is one of the most significant months of the year for sports gaming. It’s usually the time of year when EA is sending out all of their first footage of sims in FIFA and Madden and when many other game developers make their announcements.

As for the cover athlete, this is still somewhat of a mystery, but since most of the big-time stars like Lillard, Zion, Davis, LeBron, Giannis, Kyrie, and Durant have all had their turn. Some more likely candidates to be on the NBA 2K22 cover are this year’s MVP Nikola Jokic, the Mavs’ lead man Luka Doncic, Philly’s Joel Embiid, or the Jazz’ young superstar, Donovan Mitchell.

Going off previous years, the official announcement for the NBA 2K22 cover athlete should happen within the coming weeks.
