How to Use the Blow Torch in Marauders

Turn up the heat.

Is it weird that heist movies immediately spring to mind when I think of blow torches? Blow torches are supposed to be used for light soldering or making paint dry faster, but all I can think of is breaking into things. Then again, that’s the blow torch’s primary application in Marauders, so maybe I’m not the weirdo here. Speaking of, here’s how to use the Blow Torch in Marauders.

How to Use the Blow Torch in Marauders

The Blow Torch is a special miscellaneous-category weapon in Marauders, though it’s only a “weapon” in the technical sense. You could maybe fight someone with it if you were hilariously desperate, but it wouldn’t be very effective. Also, unlike regular weapons, you can’t repair a Blow Torch or replace its ammo, so it’s best saved for its primary purpose.

The Blow Torch’s main application is as a tool for breaking through thick and sturdy metal barriers. Any object exposed to the Blow Torch’s small heat will rapidly weaken and eventually break. You can use this mechanic to break down the heavy metal door to a vault, for example.

Just hold the Blow Torch’s flame over the vault door’s metal clamps, located on its sides. When the clamps get hot enough, they’ll pop right off the door, and when they’re all gone, the door will slide open, revealing all manner of riches. This does tend to be a very loud and time-consuming process, though, so make sure nobody’s around before you start torching.

You can find loose Blow Torches inside locked cases in the L1812 Service Space Station and in the Iridium Asteroid Mine. Additionally, if you complete the Legend Grows contract on the Zero to Hero progression, you’ll unlock the Blow Torch crafting recipe. This allows you to craft a fresh Blow Torch on the spot with the following materials:

  • 1 Reinforced Metal
  • 1 Synthetic Scrap
  • 1 Fuel Bottle

As I said, you can’t refill or repair a Blow Torch’s ammunition, so make sure to use it sparingly. You don’t necessarily need to have the flame on in a sustained stream. The Blow Torch “fires” at 800 RPM, so a few quick taps of the left mouse button can heat up clamps enough to break them while using up substantially less fuel.

Make sure you have a Blow Torch on hand whenever you’re breaking into something in Marauders. It’s your one-size-fits-all key to loot and riches, more or less.
