How to Unlock All Achievements in Somerville

Can you find all achievements?

Somerville is out. Jumpship’s debut Sci-Fi Adventure game, released November 15th, 2022, follows our protagonist looking for his family after being separated during an alien invasion. How to Unlock All Somerville Achievements

Here Boy…

The Achievement ‘Here Boy…’ can be unlocked at the beginning of Chapter 4. Heading into the car pileup and interact with the upside-down red car. Hold the interact button and pull down on the left analog stick. Walk across the car and head north, opening the door to the family car and going through to the other side. Turn left and walk on the knocked over letter of the sign. Drop down into the new area.

After dropping down into the new area. You will see that your dog cannot drop down with you. In order to get this achievement you need to walk to the left, wading through the water. Just walk past the lamp post (as shown in the screenshot below) and then head back to where you dropped down.

Your dog, who was initially sitting and waiting for you will now be gone. The Somerville Achievement ‘Here Boy…’ will now be unlocked.

Stuck on the John

Keeping in with the Achievements found in Chapter 4. This is found after you getting to the part where you need to melt away the debris blocking the path to your left by using the headlights on the van. To clear the path, turn the generator on, walk to the right and pick up the tongs. Place tongs into the car battery. Then interact with the generator once more, pull the cable and hold the left trigger to use your melting power.

The path is now cleared so you can head on through, walking to the left. The purple light of a ship above appears, searching for movement. Here you need to drop down in the water below. Hiding in the shadows, you can walk past, evading the purple light.

After getting past the light, you need to interact with another upside-down car. This time, the car alarm will go off. Get across and hide in the porta potty. Hiding here will unlock the Achievement ‘Stuck on the John’.

World’s Best Dad

This Somerville Achievement can be found in Chapter 1. Play as the toddler who is exploring the house, investigating the strange noises outside. First, head to the front of the house by walking left. Pick up the toy on the white table and walk back into the living room. Next, walk to the far-right area of the screen, hold the interact button on the bag next to the baby gate and pull. A toy will fall out which you can stand up on to jump over the baby gate.

Now in the kitchen, open the two kitchen drawers by interacting with the yellow cloths hanging out of the drawers. Climb up on both drawers to get onto the kitchen counter. Go over to the window and interact, pulling up on the analog stick. The toddler will fall into the bin below.

Now as our main protagonist, after getting off the couch head straight into the kitchen. Interact with the 2 drawers and window, shutting all of them. By doing this, you will unlock the Achievement ‘World’s Best Dad’.

Weary Traveller

The ‘Weary Traveller’ Somerville Achievement is found at the end of Chapter 3. Play the game as you normally would, completing the well puzzle. A quick refresh of this puzzle is:

  • Bring up the bucket at the bottom of the well using the wheel on the left side.
  • Take the bucket and drop into the pixelated water to your right (where you originally came from).
  • Go back to the well and reel the bucket in. By doing this the mechanical balls will follow the bucket and clean up the trail left by the bucket. This will lead them straight to the debris blocking the rock formation.

Now with the blockage cleared, head through where you will come across a campfire inside the small cave. Go left and follow the little girl out of the caves. Go up the staircase to finish the Chapter. At the top of the staircase is a bench overseeing the aftermath of the alien invasion. Sit on the bench to unlock the Achievement ‘Weary Traveller’.

Kind of Blue

This Somerville Achievement can be found in the middle of Chapter 4. Before heading to the Stage area, you need to get to the roof. First, use the lights in this part to melt the debris on the floor. Then pick up the same pole and walk around the tree on the right. The cable will go up the tree and the light will reach the top of the ladder, melting the debris on the next level.

Go up the ladder and then the staircase. Cross across the rooftops and go up the ladder on the other side.

Turn on the electrical box below by pulling the lever at the top of the ladder. Normally, you would head back down the ladder to continue the game. But in order to get the Achievement ‘Kind of Blue’, you need to hold the lever down and repeatedly press the left trigger to light up the stage in the distance. This will unlock the ‘Kind of Blue’ Achievement.

First Contact

For this Somerville Achievement, players need to find the mechanical alien balls that are hidden around the Massachusetts city. This is definitely the hardest achievement to unlock as there are a total of 8 locations where the aliens can be found and freed. Finding these aliens help you in understanding the patterns of their communication. This can help with knowing what to communicate in the final Chapter of Somerville. Where what you say here will give you different Endings. The locations and how to get to the balls are as follows:

Chapter 3.4

Forest location, behind the path in between the rock formation. You need to pass under a fallen tree. Here you can crouch and observe a group of balls holding a meeting. If you show yourself the aliens will look at you and then run away. One will stay and you can try communicating with it using the left bumper.

Chapter 4.1

In the beginning of Chapter 4, this alien can be found trapped inside a red car in the background of the scene. After dropping into the section filled with tents, separated from your dog. Walk left to continue the game. As you walk past the tent and table, before walking past the lamp post, look north. You should see a red car with an alien in the boot. Open the boot by interacting with the car to let it out.

Chapter 4.4

This alien can be found at the beginning of 4.4 and is the easiest to find. After walking past two lorries, clearing seeing that the way to progress the game is by going through the wheelie bins to your left. You will see an area covered with a wooden palette. In this area is an alien trying to communicate with a cardboard cut-out of a human. Simply move the palette out of the way to free it. The ball with follow you into the next section but quickly run away as danger is nearby.

Chapter 4.6

The final ball to find in this Chapter is in section 6. After dropping down from the rooftops onto the tent below. You slide down to progress into the next area with the Stage Area puzzle. As soon as you slide down, turn left. A shaking porta potty is to your left, balls are trapped inside. Open the door and the alien balls will be freed.

Chapter 5.4

Now inside the Caves, the first mechanical ball is tough to find. It can be found at the end of Chapter 5, section 4. After melting the debris along the right-side wall in order to get to the ladder in the top-left corner of the screen (this is in the room with the broken train track). Walk left to continue the game taking you into section 5. But before entering into the next section you pass through a dark tunnel. Here, using the flare you can see two holes in the wall (behind your character). Go through and continue to walk left, a ball will run and loop around.

Chapter 5.7

The second ball that can be found in the Caves is in section 7 of Chapter 5. After flooding the cavern to get to the top, the clear path to progress is to go to the left. Instead, what you need to do here is use your stone ability (hold and let go of the right trigger) to turn the pixelated water into solid mass. Here you can walk over to the right side of the screen. Continue walking to the right and squeeze through the gap taking you into a large, pitch-black room. In here you will find another mechanical ball. It will run and then reappear, this time above you.

Chapter 5.8

After beating the Heavy Door puzzle. Head to the back of the area, going through the tunnels. To your left is a ladder, do not go up here yet as you will go into the next section of the game. Instead continue heading north. Here you will see two mechanical balls communicating with each other. They will run away if they see you.

Chapter 9.1

The final ball to find is in Chapter 9, section 1 of The City. After showing your powers to your wife and son, you open the main door to venture out into the streets of Somerville. After walking for a little bit, going past the lifted lorry in the middle of the street. Round the corner of the lorry. Here you will see a large amount of the alien debris covering a store. Melt the debris away and open the door. Inside is the final ball you can find in this game. After finding all 8 balls, the Somerville Achievement, ‘First Contact’ is unlocked.
