How to Equip Tools in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town

You wouldn’t think an explanation would be required on how to hold a farming implement, but then again, when you hand a pitchfork to a child, they almost immediately start swinging it like a lightsaber. It’s important that you know how to use your tools properly, so you can properly care for your land, and properly avoid poking your eyes out. Here’s how to equip tools in Story of Seasons: Pioneers of Olive Town.

Like in any management or farming game, you’ll need a suite of tools to manage your land in different ways. For example, you need a bucket to carry water, an axe to cut down trees, a sickle to harvest crops, a hoe to till the soil, and so on. When you first start the game, you’ll receive base versions of a few vital tools within the first few in-game days. However, a tool obviously can’t do anything for you if you just leave it floating around in your suspiciously deep pockets. You gotta equip a tool to use it.

To equip your tools, open up your notebook by pressing the X button, then navigate to the Bag tab. At the bottom of the page, you’ll see a button marked “Tool Bag.” This is a bag within your bag where your tools go, to keep them from cluttering up your inventory bar. To equip your tools, just open up the Tool Bag, click on the tool you want to equip, and drag it up to one of the squares on one of the inventory bars. When a tool’s in a square on a bar, you can switch to it while you’re walking around by pressing left or right on the D-pad. You start with two separate inventory bars, and you can swap between them by pressing up or down on the D-pad.

Your Tool Bag will have very limited space when you first start out, so you might need to delegate one of your inventory bars exclusively to tool use just to free up space. Don’t worry, though; as you progress through the game and unlock upgrades, not only will your Tool Bag get bigger, you’ll also unlock more inventory bars to use at once.
