There are two separate timelines for the Destiny 2 weapon crafting changes. There is an initial round of changes launching alongside Lightfall, after which Bungie will continue adjusting the system further into 2023.

Here are the changes you can expect to take effect on February 28th:

  • Deepitsight Attunement objectives will be removed. To obtain patterns going forward, you will be able to dismantle your red borders. If you want to keep the weapon and still obtain the pattern, that is also an option.
  • Deepsight will no longer drop on weapons without a currently available pattern.
  • Shaping perks on your crafted weapons will now cost standard currency. This includes Glimmer, Enhancement Cores, Legendary Shards, and more.

Bungie will be making the following changes to the Destiny 2 weapon crafting system through 2023. These additional changes include:

  • All Resonant Element-related currency, and the Relic Tether, will be removed from the game.
  • There will be an additional feature that will allow you to activate Deepsight on a non-Deepsight weapon, provided you still need that weapon’s patterns.
  • Randomly rolled weapons will have the ability to be upgraded. This awards the enhanced variants of the weapon’s randomly rolled perks. Initially, only the Lightfall Raid weapons will have this functionality.
  • There will now be methods to level up your crafted weapons without having them equipped.
