Sony Acquires Haven Studios

Sony Acquires Haven Studios

The acquisition war in gaming started to heat up with the acquisition of Bethesda by Microsoft in 2020. Since then, the company has also acquired Activision Blizzard. Sony is their competition and is also starting to make their own acquisitions with Insomniac Games, Bungie, and, as of today, Haven Studios.

This Marks Sony’s First Canadian Studio

Sony has purchased Haven Studios, led by game industry veteran Jade Raymond. This isn’t surprising as the company invested money into Haven before they began development on a PlayStation exclusive game. This purchase makes Haven Sony’s first game studio located in Canada. The acquisition price was not revealed. Haven Studios is the 18th studio purchased by Sony.

A post on the PlayStation Blog features a welcome message from PlayStation Studios’ boss Hermen Hulst: “Today, I’m delighted to announce that Haven Studios is officially joining PlayStation Studios! Jade Raymond brings a wealth of experience from her industry achievements and an infectious passion for creating games, and the leadership team at Haven is an equally impressive group of industry veterans who have collaborated on some of the biggest and most beloved games and franchises that many of us still enjoy today.”

Raymond responded to the acquisition with a message of her own: “Today, the Haven team begins a new phase of our journey, as part of the PlayStation Studios family. Working with Hermen, Connie Booth and the team at PlayStation over the past year has been a career highlight. SIE is a supportive partner that truly understands the creative process and what it takes to make a blockbuster AAA game.”

Surprisingly, the price Sony paid for Haven was not revealed. The new IP in development at Haven Studios will be a live service game but it has no release date at this time.
